New Orleans, LA (My Sportsbook) - Chris Paul poured in a game-high 39 points, dished out seven assists and grabbed five rebounds, as the New Orleans Hornets took down the Dallas Mavericks, 114-107, in overtime at New Orleans Arena.

David West added 25 points and 10 rebounds for the Hornets, who snapped a brief two-game skid. Bobby Brown ended with 18 points off the bench, and Emeka Okafor finished with 11 points and 13 rebounds for the victors.

"We wanted this one, especially at home. We wanted to make sure we gave it all we could. We were able to wear them down in the fourth quarter and get some bounces to go our way," West said.

Jason Terry paced Dallas with 35 points off the bench, and Erick Dampier tallied 16 points and 14 boards for the Mavericks, who had a three-game winning streak snapped. Dirk Nowitzki had 12 points and five rebounds in defeat.

"The opportunities were there. We didn't play a particularly pretty game, but we really battled, and did what we had to do to put us in a position to win. But NBA basketball is 48 minutes; on consecutive nights, strange things can happen if you don't make plays. Dirk fouling out was a very difficult break for us," Mavericks head coach Rick Carlisle said.

After each team scored two points to begin OT, the Hornets ripped off seven straight points to take control. West made a layup and a fadeaway jumper before Brown drilled a trey to put New Orleans ahead, 106-99, with 2:20 left.

The Mavs never got closer than four the remainder of the way.

A pair of foul shots by Terry put Dallas ahead, 94-92, with 43.5 seconds left in regulation. After Paul missed a layup at the other end, Dampier's tip-in off a Shawn Marion shot put the Mavericks up 96-92 with 16.5 ticks to go.

A West layup cut the gap to two with 14 seconds remaining. Terry made 1-of-2 fouls shots at the other end to make it a 97-94 game.

Paul turned the ball over on the ensuing Hornets possession. Brown was then whistled for a foul and West was called for a technical. Dallas failed to capitalize, as Terry missed the technical free throw and Jose Juan Barea missed both foul shots with 9.5 seconds left.

After a timeout, Peja Stojakovic took the inbound pass and drilled a trey to tie things at 97 with 6.7 ticks to go. West then stole the Mavericks inbound pass following a timeout. West passed the ball to Paul, whose heave from well beyond the arc was off the mark to send the game into overtime.

The Hornets held a 25-17 lead after 12 minutes of play, but the Mavericks outscored New Orleans, 31-25, in the second period to cut the gap to 50-48 at the break.

Ahead 68-66 late in the third, Paul scored six consecutive points to give the Hornets an eight-point lead with less than 30 seconds left.

Dallas responded in a big way, bridging the third and fourth quarters with a 15-0 run. A James Singleton trey and a three-point play by Terry bookended the flurry, which put the Mavs ahead 81-74 with about 9 1/2 minutes to play in the fourth.

New Orleans fought back to make the game interesting down the stretch.

Game Notes

Since an ugly 21-game skid against the Mavericks from February of 2000 through March of 2007, New Orleans has won six of the last nine games in the series, including five straight in the Big Easy.
