Jets' Washington expects full recovery from injury NFL Football 11/19/2009

FLORHAM PARK, N.J. (AP) -New York Jets running back-kick returner Leon Washington expects to fully recover from his broken right leg, and is ``very optimistic'' about working out with the team when it begins offseason programs in March.

Washington made his first public appearance at the team's facility Thursday since suffering a compound fracture of the tibia and fibula last month in a game at Oakland. He had a rod inserted into the tibia, and Washington said he's ``98-99 percent'' past any threat of in

Bad time to be playing Patriots NFL Football 11/19/2009

There's never really a good time for the New York Jets to face the Patriots. Since Bill Belichick became New England's coach in 2000, the Jets are 7-13 against their rivals from Foxborough.

Many of the games have been contentious - remember Spygate and the Eric Mangini-Belichick non-handshakes - and Belichick and current Jets coach Rex Ryan aren't exactly buddies. It won't help Bill B's mood, either, that New York won 16-9 in Week 2.

Not that Belichick's dour demeanor has been anything close to cheery

Panthers, Dolphins seek to enhance postseason prospects NFL Football 11/19/2009
OLPHINS HAVE THE BALL Clearly, the absence of Brown (648 rushing yards, 8 TD) will be a blow to a Dolphins offense that ranks fourth in the league in rushing (156.2 yards per game) and has the second-most carries in the league (303), behind only the New York Jets. The obvious move will be to put the ball more frequently in the hands of Ricky Williams (558 rushing yards, 18 receptions, 7 TD), who is almost certain to garner his most carries since running 28 times in the 2005 season finale. Jets' Ryan on crying: 'I'm man enough to be me' NFL Football 11/18/2009

FLORHAM PARK, N.J. (AP) -New York Jets coach Rex Ryan says his crying in front of his team earlier this week is just another example of him staying true to himself.

Ryan got emotional during a team meeting Monday morning, a day after a 24-22 loss to Jacksonville. The coach says he believes in himself and his team, and ``if that comes out, it comes out.''

Poking fun at himself at his news conference Wednesday, Ryan took a box of tissues from a member of the media relations staff and placed it on the po

are to play at Jacksonville (5-4) this weekend.

Fitzpatrick said he was excited about the opportunity, and indicated the starting job is his indefinitely. Fitzpatrick is 1-1 in two starts and also rallied the Bills to a 16-13 overtime win over the New York Jets on Oct. 18, after Edwards was knocked out of the game.

Fewell was promoted from defensive coordinator after Dick Jauron was fired Tuesday.Copyright © 2005 The Associated Press. All rights reserved. The information contained in the AP News rep

NFC South: Panthers' Delhomme finding his confidence NFL Football 11/17/2009
ter." The suddenly-hot Panthers have won four of six since starting the season 0-3, moving them a game behind the Falcons for second place in the division. Still, a playoff spot still seems miles away, considering that after games against Miami, the New York Jets, and Tampa Bay, Carolina closes the season against four heavyweights in New England, Minnesota, the New York Giants and New Orleans. The implication of a no-huddle offense -- or "controlled chaos," as Smith called it -- appeared to give the Panthers
AFC South: Jaguars' gamble a winning one NFL Football 11/17/2009
(MySportsbook) - If Jack Del Rio and Maurice Jones-Drew would like a glimpse of what might had occurred had their surprising decision to stay out of the end zone late in Sunday's 24-22 win over the New York Jets backfired, they should catch wind of the storm of criticism pelting Bill Belichick and the New England Patriots this week. Belichick has been roundly criticized for electing not to punt from the Patriots 28 with his team nursing a six-point lead at around the two-minute mark against Indianapolis,
After another loss, Jets' Ryan says, 'It's on me' NFL Football 11/16/2009

FLORHAM PARK, N.J. (AP) -New York Jets coach Rex Ryan says he needs to figure out the reasons his team has had trouble closing out games.

Taking responsibility for the Jets' 1-5 slide following a 3-0 start, Ryan acknowledged Monday that ``it's on me to find that answer.'' Penalties, timeout mismanagement and mistakes on the field have plagued the Jets in the last several games.

New York's defense, which came in ranked No. 2 overall, failed to live up to its lofty status in the first half against Jacks

Jets S Leonhard has broken thumb NFL Football 11/16/2009
Florham Park, NJ (MySportsbook) - New York Jets safety Jim Leonhard sustained a broken right thumb during a 24-22 loss to the Jaguars on Sunday. Leonhard injured the thumb in the first quarter on Sunday. He went to the locker room to have a cast placed on his thumb before returning to the contest. The 5-foot-8, 186-pound Wisconsin product will have surgery Monday to repair the broken thumb. It is unknown how long Leonhard will be out, or if he will miss any time at all. "Surgery, that doesn't sound good t
